CASMS Hosted the 2018 Faculty Luncheon

On Jun 6th, 2018, the Chinese American Society for Mass Spectrometry (CASMS) hosted an invited junior faculty luncheon during the 66thASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics held in San Diego, CA. This event offers an open opportunity for interactions between junior and senior faculty members in the CASMS community. The lunch was organized by the CASMS Professional Development Committee Chair Dr. Jun Qu (SUNY-Buffalo) held at Union Kitchen & Tap Gaslamp, located in Gaslamp Quarter, downtown San Diego. A total of 15 faculty members attended the lunch, including:

·      Dr. Jianzhong Chen (University of Alabama at Birmingham)

·      Dr. Yue Chen (University of Minnisota-Twin Cities)

·      Dr. Jinshan Gao (Montclair State University)

·      Dr. Yu Gao (University of Illinois-Chicago)

·      Dr. Haiwei Gu (Arizona State University)

·      Dr. Anyin Li (University of New Hampshire)

·      Dr. Yansheng Liu (Yale University)

·      Dr. Junmin Peng (St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital)

·      Dr. Jun Qu (SUNY-Buffalo)

·      Dr. Liangliang Sun (Michigan State University)

·      Dr. W. Andy Tao (Purdue University)

·      Dr. Libin Xu (University of Washington)

·      Dr. Ronghu Wu (Georgia Tech)

·      Dr. Zhibo Yang (University of Oklahoma)

·      Dr. Jiangjiang Zhu (Miami University).

The lunch was held in a casual and active atmosphere. Lunch attendees first introduced themselves and their research interests, following by Q&A regarding career development in academia and grant application. Senior faculty also shared their experiences in teaching, service and grant writing. Other topics relating to various aspects of life were also discussed. The lunch prominently enhanced the understanding among members in the CASMS community. We anticipate that there will be more faculty members joining the CASMS junior faculty lunch next year.
