CASMS 2014 Annual Meeting & Dinner at Baltimore

The 62nd ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics was held in Baltimore on June 15 ‒ 19, 2014. With the efforts of the CASMS leadership team and many volunteers, the 2014 CASMS Annual Meeting and Dinner were successfully held on Tuesday evening, June 17, 2014 at the Inner Harbor Rusty Scupper. Approximately 300 CASMS members, guests, and representatives from our sponsors gathered together for the event.  The dinner buffet provided Baltimore famous food including pan-fried crab cakes, Mayland crab soup, Oriental spring-rolls, roast oysters Rockefeller, grilled marinated shrimps, and roast sirloin, among other delicious items.




From 6:30 pm, attendees gathered at the Rusty Scupper (top left), an upscale seafood restaurant in the front of the Baltimore Inner Harbor, greeted each other and enjoyed the hors d’oeuvres (lower left).  One of the CASMS Board Directors, Dr. Ada Kong, hosted the event.  The CASMS annual meeting started at 7:30 pm with an opening remark by the president Professor Xianlin Han.  He first offered greetings to the CASMS members, guests and representatives of the sponsors joining the event.  After briefly introduced the CASMS mission, Professor Han summarized the achievements of the society in the year 2013-2014 including the record-high fundraising activities led by Professor Lan Huang, publishing newsletters and reports, and the preparation of this memorable event coordinated by the CASMS Annual Meeting and Programs Committee chaired by Professor Andy Tao. 

Treasurer Dr. Shouxun Zhao presented a financial report demonstrating the solid financial status and healthy growth of our society evidenced by increased level and number of financial support from the sponsors in 2014. At this year’s meeting, a list of the sponsors with their logos was displayed on each table to recognize their sponsorship to support CASMS activities (middle and lower right). Immediate past president Dr. Karen Wang then presented a plaque to the CASMS president-elect Professor Lingjun Li for recognizing her achievement as the 2014 ASMS Biemann Medal awardee (middle left) as well as recognized Professor Zhibo Yang as an outstanding CASMS member for his 2014 ASMS Research Award. 
The Chairman of the CASMS Board of Directors Dr. Huayi Tong informed of the newly amended Bylaws of the society and encouraged more members to participate in CASMS activities and the leadership team for better serving the society and the community. The Secretary and Webmaster of CASMS, Professor Zezong Gu made over 250 rolling slides to showcase the CASMS history since 1981 and the recent activities, as well as to display vendors’ new development of their products during the meeting.  The guest speakers from sponsors congratulated the success of CASMS in making significant impact on mass spectrometry communities. 
At the end of the annual meeting, Professor Yinsheng Wang announced a number of job openings at various levels worldwide in the mass spectrometry field.  These job openings will be posted on CASMS website. After the dinner meeting, the CASMS leadership team held a post-dinner meeting and discussed the 2014-2015 society’s working plan, including the 5th World Chinese Mass Spectrometry Conference.  
We would like to thank all the volunteers for their efforts, making the 2014 CASMS Annual Dinner Meeting another successful social event and a memorable experience.
