Mass Spectrometrist – Research Associate

About Us

Jnana Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company leveraging its next-generation chemoproteomics RAPID platform to discover medicines for highly validated, challenging-to-drug targets to treat diseases with high unmet need. Jnana is focused on developing first- and best-in-class therapies to treat a wide range of diseases, including rare diseases, immune-mediated diseases and cancer. Jnana's wholly owned lead program is a potential first-in-class oral approach, targeting an allosteric site on the phenylalanine transporter SLC6A19, for the treatment of phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic metabolic disease. Located in Boston, Jnana brings together scientific leaders in small molecule drug discovery and development, a highly experienced management team and the backing of leading life science investors Bain Capital Life Sciences, RA Capital Management, Polaris Partners, Versant Ventures, Avalon Ventures, Pfizer Ventures and AbbVie Ventures. About the Opportunity

Jnana Therapeutics is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Mass Spectrometrist to work in our multidisciplinary Chemical Biology group. At Jnana, we use our novel hit generation platform with a range of cell-based assays to unlock difficult-to-drug targets, and employ chemoproteomic and mass spectrometrometry techniques to support project outcomes. This role will partner closely with Bioinformatics, Chemistry and Biology groups to design and implement analytical workflows for small molecule quantitation, metabolomics and proteomics. Prior experience in drug discovery and mass spectrometry is required. Additional training will be provided.  Strong commitment and work ethic are essential. Our current capabilities include Orbitrap and Q-ToF instrumentation coupled to nanoLC, MicroLCs, and RapidFire high throughput LC. Title and level are flexible based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement quantitative mass spectrometry methods for nano flow and analytical flow, and optimize sample preparation and data acquisition methods.
  • Sample preparation for a wide range of techniques such as global proteomic profiling, SILAC, co-immunoprecipitations, and targeted peptide quantitation.
  • Small molecule and metabolite quantitation from pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic studies.
  • Evaluate and maintain instruments and LCs to their top operating conditions as well as troubleshoot and repair common issues that arise.
  • Interface with project teams to understand issues/problems and collaborate on how to address them.

Preferred Qualifications & Past Experience

  • BS or MS in Biology or other relevant area with 2+ years of industry experience.
  • Familiarity with both Thermo Fisher Orbitrap instruments and Agilent QToF desired.
  • Experience with Agilent RapidFire a plus.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be a scientifically motivated self-starter, able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
